End to end sustainable dyeing and finishing

22/08/2024

SUPER SYSTEMS+ is supported through The Safe Edge by Archroma, an online portal that gives customers and brands real-time access to product-related regulatory and compliance certifications and information, as well as the Archroma One Way Impact Calculator – a process simulation and calculation tool designed and used by the company’s textile processing experts to provide customers and partners with an accurate estimate of the process costs, resource utilization, effluent discharge quality, and CO2 emissions of the existing production process and of the newly evaluated system.

To illustrate this, Perales used the example of a brand wanting to produce iconic black denim while saving resources, plus meeting the high standard of Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Gateway Level 3 compliance. He demonstrated how a brand could use the Matrix to ensure compliance.

“DIRESUL® Evolution Black is a groundbreaking sulfur black dyestuff that offers a unique shade and wash-down effects,” Perales added. “It is manufactured using fewer resources, it has an overall impact reduction to 57% during dye synthesis compared with standard sulfur black 1 liquid.”

The Archroma team said sulfur dyes remain pivotal to its development efforts, as the demand for denim with improved eco-profiles grows. It believes an increasing reliance on innovative and environmentally responsible solutions is happening.

Perales added: “Our goal is to lead this transformation by delivering denim that not only meets but exceeds consumer expectations for both sustainability and aesthetic appeal. We are dedicated to pioneering these advancements and pushing the boundaries of denim coloration and processing.”

In July, Archroma announced it had collaborated with Zydat to bring the complete Color Atlas by Archroma colour library to the Vivid Color Library Management (CLM) colour-matching platform for faster and more accurate inkjet digital printing of fashion and textiles.

Archroma’s Color Atlas is a large library of engineered colour standards, with more than 5,760 colour references formulated to comply with leading eco-standards.

Recently, Archroma was awarded a Gold rating by EcoVadis, the global rating agency for sustainability performance, consolidating its position among the top 5% of more than 130,000 companies from 180 countries and 220 industries assessed by EcoVadis.

This supports Archroma’s own operation targets. From 2023 to 2030, the company will work to reduce water intensity by 40%, energy intensity by 15% and waste intensity by 10%, with zero hazardous waste to landfill.

Perales said: “Our vision at Archroma is centred on sustainability, which drives our mission to innovate continuously. Looking forward, we are committed to expanding our eco-advanced solutions portfolio to meet the evolving needs of the textile industry.”

He added: “In the realm of denim colouration, we envision a future where sustainability and vibrancy go hand in hand.”
