Over the past six months, the team in India has been working closely with adolescent girls and women from the villages of Luna and Umaraya near our plant in Baroda as part of a focused CSR initiative to strengthen menstrual hygiene awareness and practices.
In many rural communities, menstruation remains surrounded by stigma and misinformation. Limited awareness and unsafe hygiene practices can lead to serious health risks and reduced confidence among young girls. Recognizing this gap, the program was aimed at replacing the silence with knowledge, and hesitation with confidence.
Through this initiative, the female participants engaged in structured training sessions, skits, role plays, and interactive discussions. These sessions provided practical guidance on menstrual hygiene, safe health practices, and environmentally responsible disposal methods. Importantly, the sessions created safe spaces for open conversations, helping normalize a topic that is often considered taboo.
The impact has been encouraging. Participants have shown increased awareness, improved hygiene practices, and greater confidence in managing their health. Several have emerged as peer advocates, ready to guide others in their communities. The project concluded last week in the presence of the local village Panchayat senior, reflecting strong community support.
